Margaret Jean Alligood

Margaret Jean Alligood, age 84, of 1420 Lizzard Slip Road, Washington, passed on peacefully at the home of her daughter, Emily Alligood Jones, of 1342 Long Ridge Road, Pinetown, on Saturday, Feb. 8, 2020.

She was born on July 6, 1935, to the late Huel and Emily Pinkham Alligood.

She attended Washington City Schools.

In 1955, she married Bonnie Alligood of Washington. He preceded her in death in 2000. During her busy career, she worked at National Spinning, Sampson Shirt Factory and Washington Garment Factory.

Along with her husband and parents, she was predeceased by three brothers: Pete, Bill and Jack Alligood, and one sister, Doris Balance.

Margaret is survived by her daughter, Emily Jones; three sons, Bonnie Gene Alligood (Washington), Timothy Earl Alligood (New Bern) and Christopher Thomas Alligood (Kinston); three granddaughters whom she adored, Kaley Faith Jones, Brittany Nicole Alligood and Alexis Faith Alligood; two sisters, Betty Boyd, of Washington, and Evy Carol Wallace, of Pinetown; and many nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held at Washington Funeral and Cremation at 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 14, 2020, with Marty Alligood officiating. The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home and all other times at Emily’s home. Margaret will be interred at Pamlico Memorial Gardens.
