City of Washington facilities closed to the public

In an abundance of caution and with the health of City of Washington’s citizens and employees in mind, the City of Washington is implementing the following effective immediately and until further notice:

  • City Hall and all other City of Washington facilities will be closed to the public.
  • City employees should report normally unless other statewide or local restrictions, for example the need for child care or the care of an elderly relative, creates a hardship. In those cases, the employee should contact their direct supervisor for further instructions.
  • Utility and other city payments are to be made online, by phone or in person. In person payments are to be made in the drop boxes provided outside of City Hall for that purpose.
  • We are suspending disconnections of utilities due to nonpayment until further notice due to the inconvenience as a result of this closure and due to the possible financial hardships this crisis brings.

We regret any inconvenience this may cause our employees and citizens but believe that we must be proactive to protect the health and well-being of all. Please continue to monitor our local news outlets and the city of Washington’s website, www.washingtonnc.gov for further updates of this situation.
