To the Editor:
We are all living in a new age … an age of uncertainty. But one thing is certain: people get hungry each and every day, children need good nutrition to grow and thrive in this world, and our seniors need good and nutritious foods to keep them healthy in their declining years.
Three “events” have impacted Eagle’s Wings on top of the COVID-19 pandemic: (1) our major spring fundraiser has been postponed (the Iron “Eagle” Chef) until the autumn; (2) we had cancelled our normal spring appeal because we were going to have our fundraiser in that same time period; and (3) we recently learned that the post office rural carriers’ food drive to “Stamp Out Hunger” has also been postponed.
These three events impact not just our cash flow at our pantry, but also affects our shelves of food. These three events do not stop our low-income families from needing to come to us for food assistance.
We are most grateful to the faithful people and churches and businesses here in Beaufort County who continue to support our mission to address hunger and food insecurity in our county. Without their support, we would not be able to reach the more than 500 families we feed each month; or the 167 school children we supply with weekend meals; or the 78 medically home-bound folks, who have their groceries brought to them by our wonderful volunteer drivers.
Let us assure you that each and every dollar we receive is spent to help our people right here in Beaufort County who need help. Please know that your continued support is very much appreciated by those we serve.
