The number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in North Carolina continued to rise from 18,622 Sunday to 19,123 on Monday. There have been 693 deaths in the state attributed to the virus, an increase of nine overnight. The state currently has 511 COVID-19 associated hospitalizations and 11,637 people have recovered from the virus in North Carolina, according to the Monday update from Beaufort County Emergency Services and Beaufort County Health Department.

In Beaufort County, there were 33 confirmed cases on Monday. Twenty-six of the 33 confirmed cases have recovered from COVID-19. Seven cases are active.

Eleven of Beaufort County’s positive cases were asymptomatic, meaning they experienced no symptoms.

The number of confirmed cases in the U.S. rose from 1,482,916 cases Sunday to 1,500,753 cases Monday ; these numbers include 272,265 people in the U.S. presumed recovered from COVID-19. The U.S. has the highest number of cases worldwide; worldwide, there have been 4,775,000 confirmed cases. Nationwide, 90,312 deaths have been attributed to the virus, an increase of 940 overnight.

North Carolina has confirmed cases in 99 counties.

Of Beaufort County’s total of 33 cases, contact tracing of these known, confirmed cases has concluded:

• 13 cases have been attributed to direct contact with a known patient from another known positive case;
• two cases were related to travel to a known outbreak area;
• 16 cases are attributed to community spread;
• one case is still under investigation.

All active cases are self-isolating, the update reads.

Eastern North Carolina counties with current cases include: Bertie (89), Beaufort (33), Bladen (73), Brunswick (58), Carteret (36), Camden (2), Chowan (15), Columbus (250), Craven (129), Currituck (11); Dare (22), Duplin (438), Edgecombe (171), Gates (14), Greene (51), Halifax (113), Hertford (53), Hyde (1), Jones (23), Lenoir (158), Martin (36), New Hanover (127), Northampton (130), Onslow (75), Pamlico (9), Pasquotank (88), Pender (49), Perquimans (23), Pitt (213), Sampson (259), Tyrrell (4), Washington (26), Wayne (867) and Wilson (246). Durham (1,009), Mecklenburg (2,652) and Wake (1,239) counties have the most cases in North Carolina.

There had been 627 tests completed in Beaufort County as of Monday, with 575 negatives, 30 positives and 22 pending. These are cumulative numbers and include tests performed at the health department and reporting private medical facilities through the county. Three of Beaufort County’s number were tested in other counties but are Beaufort County residents.

The update reminded county residents to “practice the Three W’s:” wear face coverings, wait 6 feet apart and wash your hands often.
