This platform in Albemarle Sound northeast of Legion Beach guided World War II aircraft to a 100-foot barge with metal warehouse on deck that served as a bombing target off Ship Point. Small smoke bombs and water bombs (three-foot length by 10-inch diameter) were fished up by boaters for many years afterward.
