Gary Harris of Columbia tried his luck with the $1,000,000 Win It All scratch-off and scored a $1 million top prize, the NC Education Lottery reports.
Harris bought his lucky $10 ticket at the Food Lion on U.S. 64 East in Columbia.
He claimed his prize May 12 at lottery headquarters in Raleigh.
He had a choice of taking the $1 million as an annuity of $50,000 a year over 20 years or a lump sum of $600,000. He chose the lump sum, and after federal and state tax withholdings, he took home $424,503.
Harris won the last of four top prizes in the $1,000,000 Win It All game. Since all top prizes have been claimed, the lottery will begin steps to end the game.
A comment on the lottery website the following day stated, “Wow, not the Raleigh area or Charlotte, a million-dollar winner in the smallest county in NC, anything’s possible!”
