These clusters of alligatorweed in the canal beside Taylor Beach Road are typical of an infestation Tyrrell County Soil & Water Conservation District combats every year. The noxious growth is blooming now, and herbicide spraying probably will begin soon. The best way to rid the waterways of the nuisance, one wag said, is for somebody to find a use for alligatorweed and offer $1 a pound for all harvested.
