The Betsy Bailey Nelson Animal Control Facility/Beaufort County animal shelter is open Mondays through Fridays as normal, with the exception of the public coming into the building freely. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the shelter is accepting visitors for business by appointment only. Saturdays, the shelter will be closed unless an appointment is made before 5 p.m. Friday. Setting an appointment allows our employees to try to answer questions on the phone and screen citizens to make sure they are not experiencing any symptoms of sickness before they come to the shelter. For the shelter specifically, people may call and schedule an appointment to view animals for adoption. These visits will be limited to two people at a time to minimize exposure.
The shelter is located at 3931 U.S. Highway 264 East in Washington. Normal hours open to the public: Mondays through Fridays, by appointment only, 1 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. Saturdays, the shelter will be closed unless an appointment is made by 5 p.m. Friday.
Betsy
Listed as approximately 6 months old, Betsy is an amazingly beautiful, medium-size tabby girl. Her American shorthair coat is striped with pale and darker orange. White accents her face and four little boots, and her huge pale green eyes are breathtaking. Friendly and playful, Betsy will be a welcome and delightful addition in a variety of good and loving forever home settings. For more, see Facebook’s Friends of Beaufort County Shelter Cats page, Betsy, ID No. 0742. She’s available at the shelter.
Joe
This friendly and sweet, big boy is listed as an approximately 5-year-old Labrador retriever mix with a beautiful jet-black coat with white accents. Energetic Joe needs to be the only dog in the household, and he will do best with family/owner(s) who will give him attention, include him on their outings, give plenty of regular exercise, play included, in a fenced area or on a leash and, of course, a loving forever home. For more, see Facebook’s ENC Shelter Dogs page, Joe, ID No. 0689. Visit him at the shelter.
