Billy Marvin Swain, 91, a resident of Sun City, Florida, died Friday, July 10, 2020, at the Courtyards at Berne Village Assisted Living Facility in New Bern, NC.
Billy was born on October 3, 1928, in Columbia, NC to the late Edward and Lois Alcox Swain. He was a proud American Veteran, a member of the 101st Army Airborne serving in Germany from 1951 to 1952. After returning from service he and his brother owned a Shell Gas and Service Center in Portsmouth, VA, and later he owned and operated his own in Norfolk, VA.
He also worked as a factory representative for General Motors Company serving the East Coast. While residing in Virginia Billy was a member of the Ancient Free and Accepted Masons becoming a Master Mason.
Billy’s passion was collecting antique furniture and working in his yard in the Florida sunshine. He lived a simple life but loved the Lord, his Country, and his American Flag.
A graveside service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, July 15, 2020, at the Soundside Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery, Columbia NC.
The family will receive friends immediately following the service.
Billy was preceded in death by his wife Betty Lou Peterson, infant son, Gregory Scott; parents Edward and Lois Alcox Swain, brother Bobby Lee and wife Jackie Swain.
He is survived by his brother James “Freddie” Swain and wife Debbie of Columbia, niece Allyson Swain Woolard and husband Stephen, and great-nephew Cutler of Washington, two nephews Bradley Swain and wife Lauren of New Bern, and Joseph Eric Swain and wife Bonnie and great-niece Abigail of Kitty Hawk.
The family wishes to thank the Courtyards at Berne Village Assisted Living Facility in New Bern for the loving care that they provided Billy Through the last year.
