Mr. James Doyle Jones Sr., age 83, a resident of King Arthur Trail, Washington, died Sunday, July 26, 2020, at Vidant Beaufort Hospital in Washington.

A graveside service will be held 3 p.m. Friday, July 31, 2020, at Oakdale Cemetery in Washington, conducted by Dr. Greg Barmer.

Mr. Jones was born in Bauxite, Arkansas, on Aug. 29, 1936. He served in the U.S. Navy for 19 years. Mr. Jones was a retired forklift operator. He was a member of the First Baptist Church. Mr. Jones enjoyed cooking and serving the Wednesday night meals at his church.

On March 15, 1962, he married the former Laura Darnell Swanner, who survives.

Surviving with his wife are his son, James D. Jones Jr., of the home; daughter, Elizabeth Jones, of Winterville; three grandchildren, Brittany Ann Jones, Krista Leanne Jones, James Robert Jones; and stepson, Joe Deaver, of Virginia Beach, Virginia.

Mr. Jones was preceded in death by a stepdaughter, Iola Haddock.

The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Thursday, July 30, 2020, at Paul Funeral Home & Crematory in Washington.
