From the Kiwanis Club of Washington
The Kiwanis Club of Washington has awarded a $1,500 scholarship to a Washington High School Key Club senior. Mya Wilder was honored at a recent Kiwanis Club luncheon meeting along with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Sean Wilder.
Mya, a recent graduate of Washington High School, told club members of her plans to pursue a career as a pediatric nurse practitioner. She will begin her further education at Beaufort County Community College with plans to attend North Carolina Central University to complete her degree. She was active in the Kiwanis-sponsored Key Club during high school, along with other school and community activities.
Funding for the scholarships and other club projects comes from community activities including the annual lobster sale fundraiser, the Washington/Kiwanis Christmas parade and the annual golf tournament. Some or all of these activities will be impacted this year due to COVID-19 restrictions.
The Kiwanis Club of Washington meets each Tuesday for lunch at King Chicken on Carolina Avenue, Washington. The club welcomes prospective members who have an interest in service to the community.
