Vidant Beaufort Hospital is proud to announce that intensive care unit nurse Greg Miller has been named a recipient of the DAISY Award.
The DAISY Award recognizes extraordinary nurses who demonstrate the attributes of an exceptional professional such as compassion, teamwork, persistent patient advocacy, community awareness along with timely, informative and therapeutic communication and consistent adherence to the highest clinical and ethical standards of the nursing profession.
Greg has been in nursing for 27 years and 25 of those years have been at Vidant Beaufort Hospital. In addition to his time on ICU, he has also worked as a nurse on the medical floor and emergency department. He received his nursing degree from Pitt Community College.
Greg was presented the award by Christina Miller, interim vice president of patient care services at Vidant Beaufort Hospital, and was surrounded by his family and his clinical colleagues from the ICU department.
“This is a team effort … I am proud to be part of this team, proud of the care we give and the people that I work with,” Miller said.
The DAISY Foundation was co-founded in 1999 by Tena and Bonnie Barnes in memory of their husband and son, Patrick Barnes. During his illness and subsequent death at the young age of 33, Patrick’s family witnessed the incredibly compassionate care of the nurses that cared for him.
Greg was nominated by his colleague, Bailee Cowan, assistant nurse manager of the Intensive Care Unit at Vidant Beaufort.
“Greg is the epitome of compassion in the profession of nursing. Working alongside of Greg for many years, I have been able to witness many instances of his extraordinary care that he projects and provides to patients,” Cowan said.
Cowan’s recommendation also recognized Miller for his honesty, integrity, accountability, teamwork and most importantly being a patient advocate.
Vidant Health recognizes DAISY Award winners each quarter. Each nurse chosen for the award is recognized in a public ceremony and receives a hand-carved serpentine stone sculpture known as A Healer’s Touch, cinnamon rolls and a DAISY pin. They also sign a recognition banner that is publicly displayed in their unit for the quarter.
