Mrs. Grace Harris Rice, age 103, a former resident of the South Creek community in Aurora, died Sunday, Sept. 13, 2020.
A private graveside for the family will be held.
Mrs. Rice was born in Beaufort County on May 1, 1917, to the late John Henry Harris and Alice Taylor Harris. On July 22, 1946, she married Leonard Leon Rice of Pamlico County. After 38 years of happy marriage, he preceded her in death on Nov. 28, 1984. She loved homemaking and playing piano. Her first love was her church, where at age 11, she dedicated her life to Christ. She was a member of Trinity Pentecostal Holiness Church in South Creek, which she outlived. Mrs. Rice was a dedicated supporter of the Piney Grove Campmeeting, which she attended for many summers.
Survivors include four grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, and a daughter-in-law, Linda Rice.
She is preceded in death by a daughter, Esther Rice Mayo; two sons, Gerald Freeman Rice, Leonard “Lenny” Rice; five brothers; two sisters; and a grandson, Shaun Christopher Rice Sr.
