Shelton S. Ludford will celebrate his 100th birthday on Tuesday, Sept. 29. The Tyrrell County native was in the retail hardware business for over 50 years and active in community affairs. He is a Disciples of Christ elder and a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II. Last week Congressman Gregory Murphy, M.D., wrote to him, “May you be surrounded by the warmth of happy memories and the knowledge that you continue to make this world a better place for all who love you.” Ludford resides at Tyrrell House, where he was the first resident when it opened in August 2016.
