Total confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Beaufort County numbered 1,269 Wednesday. There are now 184 active cases in the county, and five people are hospitalized, according to the Wednesday update from Beaufort County Emergency Services and Beaufort County Health Department.
According to the update, 1,050 of the 1,269 total positive cases have recovered from the virus. Thirty-five Beaufort County residents have died due to complications from the virus; 27 of those were residents of local nursing homes, according to the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services “Ongoing Outbreaks in Congregate Living Settings” report, which was last updated on Tuesday afternoon.
The total number of cases that have been confirmed in the U.S. rose from 7,836,680 Tuesday to 1,899,758 Wednesday; these numbers include 3,124,593 people in the U.S. presumed recovered from COVID-19. The U.S. has the highest total number of cases worldwide; worldwide, there have been 38,351,539 confirmed cases. Nationwide, 216,513 deaths have been attributed to the virus, an increase of 964 overnight.
The number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in North Carolina continued to rise from 234,481 Tuesday to 236,407 Wednesday. There have been 3,866 deaths in the state attributed to the virus, an increase of 40 overnight. The state currently has 1,152 COVID-19 associated hospitalizations and 206,471 people are presumed recovered from the virus in North Carolina.
Eastern North Carolina counties total COVID-19 cases as of Wednesday numbered: Bertie (663), Beaufort (1,269), Bladen (993), Brunswick (1,915), Carteret (932), Camden (129), Chowan (472), Columbus (1,535), Craven (2,015), Currituck (209); Dare (312), Duplin (2,617), Edgecombe (1,661), Gates (158), Greene (782), Halifax (1,185), Hertford (833), Hyde (149), Jones (170), Lenoir (1,171), Martin (568), New Hanover (4,751), Northampton (513), Onslow (2,751), Pamlico (294), Pasquotank (797), Pender (1,144), Perquimans (213), Pitt (5,593), Sampson (2,472), Tyrrell (118), Washington (229), Wayne (3,938) and Wilson (2,554). Guilford (10,088), Mecklenburg (30,818) and Wake (19,334) counties have the most cases in North Carolina.
There had been 17,178 tests completed in Beaufort County as of Wednesday, with 1,269 positives. Since March, 67 COVID-19-related hospitalizations have occurred in the county.
Cumulative numbers include tests performed at the health department and reporting private medical facilities through the county.
The update reminded county residents to “practice the Three W’s:” wear face coverings, wait six feet apart and wash your hands often.
