Total confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Beaufort County numbered 1,284 Thursday. There are now 188 active cases in the county, and six people are hospitalized, according to the Thursday update from Beaufort County Emergency Services and Beaufort County Health Department.
According to the update, 1,061 of the 1,284 total positive cases have recovered from the virus. Thirty-five Beaufort County residents have died due to complications from the virus; 27 of those were residents of local nursing homes, according to the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services “Ongoing Outbreaks in Congregate Living Settings” report, which was last updated on Tuesday afternoon.
The total number of cases that have been confirmed in the U.S. rose from 7,899,758 Wednesday to 7,966,634Thursday; these numbers include 3,155,826 people in the U.S. presumed recovered from COVID-19. The U.S. has the highest total number of cases worldwide; worldwide, there have been 38,750,144 confirmed cases. Nationwide, 217,601 deaths have been attributed to the virus, an increase of 1,088 overnight.
The number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in North Carolina continued to rise from 236,407 Wednesday to 238,939 Thursday. There have been 3,874 deaths in the state attributed to the virus, an increase of eight overnight. The state currently has 1,140 COVID-19 associated hospitalizations and 206,471 people are presumed recovered from the virus in North Carolina.
Eastern North Carolina counties total COVID-19 cases as of Thursday numbered: Bertie (666), Beaufort (1,284), Bladen (1,004), Brunswick (1,942), Carteret (945), Camden (130), Chowan (477), Columbus (1,552), Craven (2,038), Currituck (213); Dare (314), Duplin (2,648), Edgecombe (1,705), Gates (158), Greene (801), Halifax (1,210), Hertford (836), Hyde (158), Jones (171), Lenoir (1,209), Martin (578), New Hanover (4,782), Northampton (513), Onslow (2,832), Pamlico (295), Pasquotank (801), Pender (1,155), Perquimans (218), Pitt (5,655), Sampson (2,493), Tyrrell (118), Washington (232), Wayne (3,996) and Wilson (2,585). Guilford (10,184), Mecklenburg (31,074) and Wake (19,454) counties have the most cases in North Carolina.
There had been 17,348 tests completed in Beaufort County as of Thursday, with 1,284 positives. Since March, 68 COVID-19-related hospitalizations have occurred in the county.
Cumulative numbers include tests performed at the health department and reporting private medical facilities through the county.
The update reminded county residents to “practice the Three W’s:” wear face coverings, wait six feet apart and wash your hands often.
