Total confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Beaufort County numbered 1,362 Thursday. There are now 190 active cases in the county, and seven people are hospitalized, according to the Thursday update from Beaufort County Emergency Services and Beaufort County Health Department.
According to the update, 1,131 of the 1,362 total positive cases have recovered from the virus. Forty-one Beaufort County residents have died due to complications from the virus; 27 of those were residents of local nursing homes, according to the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services “Ongoing Outbreaks in Congregate Living Settings” report, which was last updated on Tuesday afternoon.
The total number of cases that have been confirmed in the U.S. rose from 8,312,109 Wednesday to 8,395,100 Thursday; these numbers include 3,323,354 people in the U.S. presumed recovered from COVID-19. The U.S. has the highest total number of cases worldwide; worldwide, there have been 41,538,416 confirmed cases. Nationwide, 222,925 deaths have been attributed to the virus, an increase of 1,231 overnight.
The number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in North Carolina continued to rise from 250,592 Wednesday to 252,992 Thursday. There have been 4,082 deaths in the state attributed to the virus, an increase of 50 overnight. The state currently has 1,205 COVID-19 associated hospitalizations and 218,541 people are presumed recovered from the virus in North Carolina.
Eastern North Carolina counties total COVID-19 cases as of Thursday numbered: Bertie (710), Beaufort (1,362), Bladen (1,068), Brunswick (2,106), Carteret (1,027), Camden (134), Chowan (496), Columbus (1,626), Craven (2,213), Currituck (221); Dare (353), Duplin (2,699), Edgecombe (1,883), Gates (166), Greene (902), Halifax (1,318), Hertford (849), Hyde (175), Jones (184), Lenoir (1,325), Martin (607), New Hanover (5,068), Northampton (536), Onslow (2,082), Pamlico (304), Pasquotank (855), Pender (1,228), Perquimans (235), Pitt (5,958), Sampson (2,605), Tyrrell (127), Washington (239), Wayne (4,313) and Wilson (2,797).
There had been 18,699 tests completed in Beaufort County as of Thursday, with 1,362 positives. Since March, 73 COVID-19-related hospitalizations have occurred in the county.
Cumulative numbers include tests performed at the health department and reporting private medical facilities through the county.
The update reminded county residents to “practice the Three W’s:” wear face coverings, wait six feet apart and wash your hands often.
