COVID-19: state stats at a glance

Total confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Beaufort County numbered 1,367 Friday. There are now 176 active cases in the county, and seven people are hospitalized, according to the Friday update from Beaufort County Emergency Services and Beaufort County Health Department.

According to the update, 1,150 of the 1,367 total positive cases have recovered from the virus. Forty-one Beaufort County residents have died due to complications from the virus; 29 of those were residents of local nursing homes, according to the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services “Ongoing Outbreaks in Congregate Living Settings” report, which was last updated on Friday afternoon.

The total number of cases that have been confirmed in the U.S. rose from 8,395,100 Thursday to 8,468,802 Friday; these numbers include 3,353,056 people in the U.S. presumed recovered from COVID-19. The U.S. has the highest total number of cases worldwide; worldwide, there have been 42,020,333 confirmed cases. Nationwide, 223,730 deaths have been attributed to the virus, an increase of 805 overnight.

Thursday’s update reported confirmed COVID-19 cases in North Carolina numbering 252,992, with 4,082 deaths in the state attributed to the virus, 1,205 COVID-19 associated hospitalizations and 218,541 people presumed recovered from the virus in North Carolina.

Eastern North Carolina counties total COVID-19 cases as of Thursday numbered: Bertie (710), Beaufort (1,367*), Bladen (1,068), Brunswick (2,106), Carteret (1,027), Camden (134), Chowan (496), Columbus (1,626), Craven (2,213), Currituck (221); Dare (353), Duplin (2,699), Edgecombe (1,883), Gates (166), Greene (902), Halifax (1,318), Hertford (849), Hyde (175), Jones (184), Lenoir (1,325), Martin (607), New Hanover (5,068), Northampton (536), Onslow (2,082), Pamlico (304), Pasquotank (855), Pender (1,228), Perquimans (235), Pitt (5,958), Sampson (2,605), Tyrrell (127), Washington (239), Wayne (4,313) and Wilson (2,797).

There had been 18,871 tests completed in Beaufort County as of Friday, with 1,367 positives. Since March, 73 COVID-19-related hospitalizations have occurred in the county.

Cumulative numbers include tests performed at the health department and reporting private medical facilities through the county.

The update reminded county residents to “practice the Three W’s:” wear face coverings, wait six feet apart and wash your hands often.
