Beaufort County’s post-holiday spike in new COVID-19 cases continued with 83 new cases reported Wednesday, a new single-day record. The county’s total case count is now 2,523. Twelve of the county’s 438 active cases are currently hospitalized.
Wednesday’s update from the Beaufort County Office of Emergency Services and Beaufort County Health Department followed Tuesday’s record-setting report, which included 74 new cases and three confirmed COVID-19-related deaths. On Tuesday, Beaufort County Health Director Jim Madson said the spike in cases this week might have been caused in part by holiday gatherings.
Beaufort County also reported Wednesday that 59 more county residents had recovered from COVID-19, increasing the total amount of recoveries to 2,023.
North Carolina reported 8,551 new COVID-19 cases and 155 coronavirus-related deaths Wednesday.
