KINSTON — Washington resident Alexandra Melk, a senior at Parrott Academy, recently learned that last year’s Patriot yearbook on which she served as co-editor won a gold medal in the Columbia Scholastic Press Association national competition. The yearbook used the theme “Blink.”

This is the sixth straight year that Parrott’s publication has received a national Gold Medal. The 2020 Patriot also won the All-North Carolina rating from the N.C. Scholastic Media Association, one of only 10 yearbooks in the state to receive this honor. Melk is one of four seniors serving on the 2021
yearbook editorial staff.
