Washington man dies after shooting on Clarks Neck Road

On Feb. 11, a Washington resident was shot while driving on Clarks Neck Road and died from his injuries after being transported to Vidant Beaufort Hospital.

Pitt County deputies responded to a report of a person with a gunshot wound at approximately 8:23 p.m. Upon arriving at the scene, deputies learned that the victim had been transported to Vidant Beaufort Hospital by a third party. The victim, identified as Stephon Smith, 28, had been shot while driving on Clarks Neck Road in Washington. Smith died during surgery on Feb. 12.
