Beaufort County Health Director Jim Madson said Friday that local providers are expecting an allocation of 1,100 doses of the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine to be administered next week.

Those doses will be given to people ages 65 and older, school personnel and other essential workers who qualify under Group 3 of the state’s vaccination plan.

All appointments previously scheduled through the health department will be fulfilled.

Beaufort County’s population is 47,079. As of Friday, 9,106 Beaufort County residents had received their first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine, and 4,024 had completed their two-dose series.

The county’s population includes 11,281 individuals’ ages 65 and older. In that age group, 6,916 county residents (61.3%) have received their first dose, and 3,031 have completed the series.

“Beaufort County providers remain committed in our efforts to vaccinate all those who are interested in the COVID-19 vaccine as quickly and efficiently as possible,” Madson said in a release.

Beaufort County Area Transit System is offering assistance to those who have vaccine appointments but are otherwise unable to secure transportation to the vaccine site. Call 252-946-5778 for more information.

Beaufort County recorded 16 new cases of COVID-19 Friday, as well as eight recoveries. The county’s total case count is 4,278, and health officials know of 164 active cases among county residents. Five of those individuals are hospitalized.

A total of 4,033 Beaufort County residents have recovered from the coronavirus.

Eastern N.C. counties with total confirmed cases include: Bertie, (1,631), Beaufort (4,278),  Bladen (2,922), Brunswick (7,952), Carteret (4,434), Camden (578), Chowan (1,359), Columbus (5,795), Craven (8,249), Currituck (1,366), Dare (1,849), Duplin (5,659), Edgecombe (4,620), Gates (673), Greene (2,129), Halifax (4,992), Hertford (1,943),  Hyde (623), Jones (711), Lenoir (5,408), Martin (2,061), New Hanover (16,024), Northampton (1,679), Onslow (14,545), Pamlico (946), Pasquotank (3,047), Pender  (4,633), Perquimans (894), Pitt (17,387) Sampson (6,676), Tyrrell (301) Washington (981), Wayne (10,216) and Wilson (8,355). Mecklenburg (96,252), Wake (74,043), Guilford (39,633) counties have the most cases.
