The Washington City Council’s regularly scheduled meeting Monday will be held in-person for the first time since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The meeting will begin at 5:30 p.m. inside room 214 of the Washington Municipal Building. In-person attendance will be limited, and masks will be required.
Council will consider two preliminary subdivision plats Monday. In one case, an applicant is seeking to redevelop what is now The Washington Racquet Club into an 18-lot single-family subdivision. Most of the property, which is listed at 123 Avon Avenue, is zoned office and industrial, and a small section of it is zoned residential. The planning board voted 5-1 to recommend City Council’s approval of the preliminary plat.
The other preliminary subdivision plat Council will consider is for Moss East, which is essentially the second phase of the Moss Landing development. City Council in January approved a preliminary plat variance request from the developer. The main point of contention surrounding that request was whether the city would eventually be able to extend its public boardwalk to include the Moss East waterfront. One of the conditions listed in the approved variance request states that public access must be guaranteed for any boardwalk built on Moss East’s southern border, although the developer has no obligation to build such a boardwalk.
In other business, a presentation will be made regarding the city’s budget for the fiscal year 2021-22. Council will also consider moving forward with a new contract with East Coast Pyrotechnics, which handles the city’s Fourth of July fireworks display. City Council in 2012 authorized the city manager to sign agreements in future years with East Coast Pyrotechnics, as long as the terms of the contract didn’t change. The contractor is requiring a contract to be finalized by April 15 this year, which is earlier than usual because of COVID-19 protocols.
