Once her senior season of athletics finally started, Southside’s Tyaunna Tyre has been going non-stop. She played volleyball, basketball and was on the cheerleading team for football. Now it’s time to run and throw. Tyaunna is part of the 4 x 100 and 4 x 400 relay teams, runs the 100 and throws the discus. She slowed down long enough to answer five questions.

  1. How would you find a needle in a haystack?

Tyaunna: I would invent a needle seeking device to help me find it.

  1. If you could make a new holiday, what would it be?

Tyaunna: I would make an all-sports day at school, so as many sports as possible would be happening during the day, like the Olympics. Those students who don’t play sports could be the crowd to cheer us on.

  1. What is the ice cream flavor that best fits your personality?

Tyaunna: Cookies and Cream, because I like to think I’m unpredictable and spontaneous and each bite of that ice cream tastes a little different.

  1. What is your favorite sport and when did you start playing it?

Tyaunna: I like track the best, because I like the competition. I started running in eighth grade and my favorite event is the 4 x 100 because I get to run with my friends.

  1. Which teacher at Southside has influenced you the most?

Tyaunna: Coach Q, athletic director, track & football coach Andre Quinerly, because he helps me make good decisions and encourages me to try things when I don’t want to.
