The Hyde County Board of Commissioners honored Brandon Marshall as their Friend of Hyde County during the May meeting Monday. 

“We were so blessed to have Brandon here in Hyde County. Brandon did so much for the community. Whenever I needed to know anything about Engelhard, I called Brandon,” said Kris Cahoon Noble, county manager of Hyde County.

Marshall was involved in the Hyde County Ducks Unlimited branch, Farm Bureau board of directors, engelhard sewer board, volunteer fire department and the engelhard development corporation. He also assisted in the seafood festival, Christmas parade and Hyde County youth athletics. 

Marshall was killed in a hunting accident while hunting ducks at a waterfowl impoundment located in Hyde County. Life saving measures were taken but Marshall succumbed to his injuries at the scene. 

“Brandon did everything for our community and the Engelhard community. For any of y’all who knew him, you knew how important he was,” Noble said. “I know that we are going to have a difficult time to ever try to fill the gaps that his love filled for us.” 

A house bill, House Bill 671, is currently on the floor of the general assembly of North Carolina to change the state mammal from the gray squirrel to the black bear in honor of Marshall. A plaque was also given to the family of Marshall in honor of his contributions to the community. A duplicate of this plaque will be hung in the Hyde County offices.
