The Northeast Regional Educational Service Alliance has named Beaufort County Schools Superintendent Matthew Cheeseman its Region I Superintendent of the Year.
The NERESA consists of 17 regional school districts, including those in Beaufort, Pitt, Hyde, Martin and Washington counties.
Cheeseman is now a candidate for N.C. Superintendent of the Year.
“I would like to thank the NERESA – Region 1 superintendents for their confidence in me to represent the region this fall in the selection process for the N.C. Superintendent of the Year,” Cheeseman said. “I am truly grateful for the endless collaboration, problem-solving, and support that the NERESA superintendents have engaged in since March 14, 2020, when public school districts closed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Together, we have navigated unchartered waters due to the pandemic from day-to-day, hour-to-hour, and minute-to-minute. I will forever be thankful for their brilliance, endurance, and leadership.”
“I would like to thank the Beaufort County Board of Education for their continued vision, decision-making, and support in ensuring the students of Beaufort County receive a world-class education,” Cheeseman continued. “I appreciate and value the relationships and care the Board has for me and the students, employees and community as their leadership continues to be influential and impactful throughout the district, region, and state. I feel blessed to be the Superintendent of Beaufort County Schools and wish to thank the Board for providing me the opportunity to serve the Beaufort County community.”
