Wayne Woolard, 69, of Ponzer passed away on Wednesday, August 25, 2021, at his residence.
Wayne was born in Beaufort County on September 25, 1951, to the late James Ed and Cottie Modlin Woolard. He was married to Regina Smithwick Woolard, who survives.
He retired from the North Carolina Department of Transportation – Ferry Division with 16 years of service. He was affectionately known as Papa Wayne, by his family that he loved very much. He also loved his campground family and Cooler family. Working on his swimming pool, telling stories, walking and being in touch with nature were some of his favorite past times. Hunting was also a favorite and he enjoyed taking children hunting. He attended the West Belhaven Church of Christ, and was a member of Atlantic Lodge #294 AF&AM of Swan Quarter.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Brett Woolard and wife Kayla of Belhaven; two daughters, Brandi Mobley and husband Louis of Plymouth, and Brooke Dunbar and husband Chuck of Ponzer; grandchildren: Ethan Mobley, Nathan Dunbar, Dustin Mobley, Natalie Dunbar, and Paylin Woolard; great-grandson, Nicholas James Mobley; three sisters, Phyllis Dickerson and husband Robert of Plymouth, Carolyn Boyd and husband George of Plymouth, and Brenda Cooper of Pantego, several nieces and nephews, and Delbert Armstrong, Jr., his extended family member.
He was preceded in death by sisters, Dorothy Waters, Betty Jean Cuthrell, and Becky Moore.
A graveside funeral service will be held at 6:00 p.m., on Saturday, August 28, 2021, at the Smithwick Family Cemetery, officiated by Mike Caton.
A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the residence of Mr. and Mrs. Chuck Dunbar, 107 Riverside Campground Road, Belhaven. In keeping with Mr. Wayne’s wishes, casual attire is requested.
