All three Beaufort County public school teams earned road victories Friday night and almost every yard in each game came on the ground. Here are the top three performances from Week 2 of the high school season.
- Terry Moore-the Washington High School senior ran over, around and through the First Flight defense on the way to 194 yards on just eight carries. The Duke commit had scoring runs of 65, 45 and 60 yards, then returned a punt 90 yards for his fourth touchdown later in the game. Moore has 408 yards on just 20 carries in the first two games with eight touchdowns.
- Mitch Godley-the Northside senior led another relentless rushing attack with 135 yards and four touchdowns on 20 carries in a 49-6 victory over an overmatched North Duplin squad. He also led the Panthers with seven tackles from his linebacker spot.
- Kenjray Coffield-the Southside running back rounds out a trio of outstanding performances from seniors with 127 yards and a pair of touchdowns, including a 58-yard jaunt in the Seahawks 36-14 victory at Washington County.
Beat of the rest: Northside-Senior Elijah Covington gained 89 yards on just four carries. Noah Manning intercepted two North Duplin passes, Landon Buck had seven tackles, including four for loss, Briley Cooper recorded six tackles and kicker Chase Tomaini converted all seven of his extra point tries.
Southside-Senior Keywon Campbell led a second straight strong defensive performance with 8.5 tackles including six solo and 2.5 for loss. Sophomore Tequon (Tater) Moore returned a fumble 84 yards for a touchdown.
Washington-Senior Ryan Spruill interception two passes, linebacker Koby Munday had a team-high 12.5 tackles, Dawson Mitchell had 6.5 tackles and forced a fumble while K.J. Moore had 2.5 sacks.
