The Humane Society of Beaufort County will hold its 27th annual auction beginning at 6 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 8 at the Washington Civic Center.

The auction is the Humane Society’s major annual fundraiser. Tickets are $40 per person, or $350 for a table of 10. RSVP by calling 252-946-1591; the deadline is Oct. 1.

The money raised is used to assist with spaying and neutering every animal adopted from the county shelter. The society also helps local rescue groups with spay/neuter vouchers.

“Our newest project has been providing vouchers to help spaying/neutering cats to help reduce the stray population in the county,” said Humane Society president Marty Poffenberger. “These projects result in saving thousands of lives annually. This also reduces the number of animals that flood our local shelter.”
