Dave Smith Gym will be a busy place Saturday as 11 teams converge for the first 252-919 Showcase basketball event.
Defending state champions Raleigh Millbrook (4A) faces defending 2A titlist Farmville Central in one of eight games on tap, while last year’s 1A champ, Wilson Prep takes on Cleveland HS at 1 p.m.
“We’re beyond excited to finally host this event after COVID-19 wiped it out last year,” Washington coach David Allewalt said. “There’s been talk for a long time about which area code produced better players, so we thought this would be a fun way to find out.”
The showcase is sponsored by BTW Global, a Washington management, scientific and technical consulting company.
“We really appreciate their help,” Allewalt said. “Their owners love basketball and are happy to bring more exposure to the high school game in our area. It will be a very fun competitive day with a lot of great talent on display.”
Hertford County starts the day against Goldsboro at 10 a.m. followed by Henderson Collegiate against Heritage at 11:30. Wilson Prep-Cleveland is at 1 p.m., then Washington tips off at 4 p.m. against Southern Durham, Greenfield plays Apex-Friendship at 5:30, Farmville Central takes on Millbrook at 7, then South Central plays Raleigh Word of God in the nightcap at 8:30. All day passes are available at the gate for $15.
