High School gyms around Beaufort County were dark Friday night and will stay that way until Wednesday as all activities are on pause because of COVID-19 related problems.
Among the contests postponed were Friday’s basketball games at Southside against county rival Northside. Both girls teams are among the best in the East so far this season and the boys match-up will help determine the conference pecking order. The games have been rescheduled to Saturday, Feb. 5.
Washington High School’s swim meet Saturday has also been postponed as has the conference dual team wrestling meet at North Pitt. The Pam Pack boys and girls basketball games at SouthWest Edgecombe Friday will also have to be rescheduled along with several on Tuesday.
“It’s been a busy couple of days, but everyone is in the same boat,” WHS Athletic Director Lane Raper said. “We’ve worked it out pretty well so far, so let’s hope we can get our games in and without further disruption.
