The Pungo Christian Academy boys basketball team extended its winning streak to four games and the girls picked up a win as well Tuesday night at Terra Ceia in the first of two meetings between the county rivals.
The Knights (4-6, 1-1) had been off the court for two weeks because of COVID-19 related issues and the first game in a week for the Raiders (9-8, 4-0).
PCA jumped out to a 22-4 first quarter lead on the way to a 67-45 victory.
Sophomore Drew Van Staalduinen led PCA with 15 points and 10 rebounds. Wilson Sawyer chipped in 12 points and added five assists, while Bo Spencer added 9.
Terra Ceia senior Elijah Shelton took game scoring honors with 26 points, while eighth-grader Ryan Ange scored 10 and grabbed eight rebounds.
“We were able to get the win despite our 24 turnovers” Coach Logan Van Staalduinen said. “We need to clean up a few things before our next game but overall, I’m proud of our team for staying focused and coming away with a win.”
PCA has now won 4 games in a row and is above .500 for the first time since Dec. 10th.
The Lady Raiders (8-5, 3-1) prevailed, 67-39 behind 25 points from junior post player Reagan Stoop and 10 from Ashley Williford.
Senior Carly James, who scored her 1,000th career point earlier this month, led the Knights (7-3, 1-2) with 15 points. Sophomore Lily Jefferson also scored 15 points.
