State swimming recap; Cole makes consolation round

Southside’s Delta Cole was the top finisher among county swimmers at Saturday’s 1A/2A state swim meet at the Triangle Aquatic Center in Cary.
The Seahawks junior qualified for the event after a fourth place finish in the East regional and finished 11th after making the consolation finals. She bettered her preliminary swim of 26.49 seconds with a 26.30 in the second round. She finished 17th in the 100-freestyle.
On the boys side, Washington junior John Hinchey was 17th in the 100 Breaststroke, 22nd in the 100-freestyle and teamed with freshman Victor Hill, junior Austin Waters and senior Jackson Wilder to finish 20th in the 400 freestyle relay and 21st in the 200 relay.
Waters was 23rd in the 100-freestyle, while Southside sophomore Ty Cole was 19th in the 200-freestyle.
Southside senior Campbell Barnes qualified for the 50-freestyle, but elected not to compete.
