CMS boys pull off four-peat
The Chocowinity Middle School won their fourth straight Inner Banks Athletic Conference title and rolled through the league undefeated for the third straight season with a 12-0 record.
Snowden of Aurora finished second at 8-3, while Northeast was 7-3. St. Peter’s (Green) of Greenville (6-6), St. Peter’s Blue (4-8), Bath (2-9) and Bear Grass (0-10) completed the standings.
“Our kids were excited to come to practice every day and worked very hard to improve,” coach Alan Swain said. “They also took care of their business in the classroom and were a great group to coach. Chaise Smith is a phenomenal student-athlete who plays his best when the chips are down and you need him to take over a game. That’s a special quality that you can’t coach. He was terrific for us on the football field and is our shortstop or center fielder in baseball this spring. I’ve very excited to see what he does in high school.”
Bear Grass captured the girls conference title with a 10-0 record, with the Indians second at 7-5. Snowden was 6-4, while Bath was fourth at 5-5. Defending champion Northeast was 2-7 in a rebuilding year.
