Washington High School student Katie Council recently was awarded a prestigious scholarship from East Carolina University.
Council was one of just 20 students to be named an EC Scholar. The EC Scholars Program is a merit scholarship opportunity offered by the university.
“This program offers you a significant scholarship valued at nearly $64,000 and challenging learning experiences for highly select group of East Carolina University undergraduates,” a description on ECU’s website reads. “The EC Scholars Award Program provides students rigorous coursework, research opportunities with faculty members across campus, and a required study abroad experience.”
To be eligible for the program, a student needs to be admitted to the Honors College and then be chosen as a Chancellor’s Fellow. Roughly 50 out of 900 students are chosen to be Chancellor’s Fellows. Those 50 students then go to ECU for group and individual interviews. Twenty of the students are chosen to be EC Scholars.
