Northside’s Mitch Godley will continue his career at Catawba College in Salisbury.
Godley, a 5’9, 190 lb. fullback/linebacker, was the Coastal Plains Conference offensive player of the year and led the Panthers to the third round of the 1A state playoffs.
“I’m proud of Mitch and congratulate him on the opportunity to keep playing,” coach Keith Boyd said. “Catawba is getting a guy who will work hard to earn some playing time early and I hope he does. He was a leader for us on the field and in the weight room and helped us accomplish a lot during his career.”
Godley, a physical ball carrier, averaged .93 yards per carry, gained 1,998 yards and scored 28 touchdowns during an 11-2 season. He led the Panthers with 103 tackles from his outside linebacker position and was a big contributor to Northside’s 1A state runner-up squad in the spring of 2021 during his junior season.
“Catawba will probably put him at outside linebacker first, but he’s capable of running the ball also,” Boyd said. His physical style is suited to defense at the next level, but I’m just happy he’s able to live out his dream to keep playing.”
Catawba is a member of the Division II South Atlantic Conference and is coming off a 4-6 season under 10th year head coach Curtis Walker. The Indians conference includes Lenoir-Rhyne and Mars Hill, along with other members from South Carolina and Virginia.
