From Beaufort County Sheriff's Office
The NC State Bureau of Investigation is currently investigating the cause of death of an inmate in the Beaufort County Detention Center last night. Emergency Medical personnel were summoned to the facility at about 7:42 p.m. for an unknown medical emergency. Their efforts to revive the inmate were unsuccessful. In keeping with normal procedure, the Sheriff’s Office immediately notified the District Attorney’s Office and the NC State Bureau of Investigation to conduct the investigation.
Upon witnessing the unknown medical emergency suffered by 31-year-old Quintin L. Freeman of Greenville, fellow inmates summoned detention officers. Detention officers summoned Emergency Medical Services then began life saving measures on Freeman. First responders arrived within 8 minutes and continued efforts to save Freeman, but those efforts were unsuccessful.
Freeman was being held in Beaufort County on pending felony charges from Beaufort, Pitt and Wilson Counties. In keeping with state regulations, Freeman’s death has also been reported to the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services. The investigation is still currently ongoing.
