Seventy area veterans from World War II to the Korean War through the Vietnam War, along with their guardians took an Honor Flight to Washington, DC April 30. During the all-expense paid trip, the veterans visited military memorials they might not otherwise be able to visit. They enjoyed fellowship with other Veterans, remembered their friends and comrades lost, and shared stories and experiences.
Major Reading Blount Chapter of DAR sent cards for the veterans. Member Becky Allen arranged for the students at Terra Ceia Christian School and Pungo Christian Academy to prepare cards with pictures and words of thanks for the veterans to receive during the mail call as they boarded the plane for their flight home.
The children wrote of their gratitude and appreciation for the service of the veterans in shaping America. The children learned much about true heroes and the need to show appreciation for the sacrifices of all veterans.
