The Down East Seniors Club held their May 25 meeting at the Blind Center of NC in Washington. Vice President Pat Griffin led the meeting. Jim Hackney played for the singing of “God Bless America” and the group pledged allegiance to the flag. Charles Smith gave the opening prayer and Hackney presented factoids for the date in history.
Joffre’ Fisher introduced Rev. Chris Adams as the speaker. Rev. Adams is Rector of St. Peter’s Episcopal Church in Washington. Recently he has written a weekly article in the Washington Daily News about various philosophical issues. He said the guiding thought behind all the articles has been “What have I added to the world?”. Some of the issues he raised include “Where am I growing? What kind of world am I leaving for those behind?, How am I benefiting my neighbor?, My obligation is to my neighbor before myself, Most people don’t want to publicly acknowledge their shortcomings, and Are we close to Jesus?”
Curtis Brookshire won the 50/50 drawing.
Griffin announced that the club would not meet during the months of June, July, and August. He wished everyone a good summer and hoped to see them back the first Wednesday in September
