Beaufort County Manager Brian Alligood, pictured right with Kiwanis member and Beaufort County Attorney David Francisco, was guest speaker at a recent meeting of the Kiwanis Club of Washington.
Alligood commented on uses of funds available from the state and local American Rescue Act sources including paying for existing county services, supplementing public safety salaries and providing broadband service to underserved areas of the county. He mentioned a feasibility study of the county jail’s future and said that it is being examined by a group headed by Commissioner John Rebholz.
He acknowledged solid waste as an ongoing problem for the county and said that they were looking at ways to provide better, more consolidated services including more comprehensive recycling programs.
The county will receive over $3 million dollars over the next 17 years according to Mr. Alligood. He said that the money would be used for programs to reduce opioid misuse and prevent overdoses.
The Kiwanis Club of Washington meets each Tuesday for lunch at King Chicken on Carolina Avenue, Washington. The club welcomes prospective members who have an interest in service to the community.
