The Washington Noon Rotary Club’s President, Dr. David Loope, introduced guest speaker Alexis Kelly during Monday’s weekly club meeting at the King Chicken Banquet Hall.

Ms. Kelly, Chief Executive Officer and Co-Founder of the Kelly Children’s Home, explained the purpose and mission for the non-profit organization which purchased the vacated 2nd Baptist Church building located at 300 E. 10th Street in Washington two years ago.

According to Ms. Kelly, the Covid-19 pandemic has slowed the renovation of the building.  Once the renovation project is completed, the Kelly Children’s Home will provide much needed residential housing and life skills training for approximately twenty homeless 18-year old youths who’ve aged out of the Foster Care system. Meantime, the club continues to finalize plans for the 24th annual Smoke on the Water Whole Hog BBQ competition presented by Smithfield Foods. The October 21-22 annual event features nearly 60 barbecue teams along with live music, a chili contest, a classic car show, a 5K Fitness Run/Walk plus the opportunity to purchase delicious pulled pork barbecue fresh off the grill.

All Smoke on the Water net proceeds help the Washington Noon Rotary Club to reinvest in more than 25 local non-profit organizations and charities.
