From Chris Newkirk / Beaufort County Emergency Services:
Our office is currently monitoring the development of Tropical Depression #9 in the Caribbean Sea. It is expected to become a Tropical Storm over the weekend and track north, impacting Florida as a Hurricane Tuesday and / or Wednesday of next week. Current forecast models suggest this storm will continue a track along the eastern US bringing potential impacts to North Carolina as we enter next weekend. (Friday / Saturday)
We encourage everyone to monitor the progression of this storm closely and use the coming days to ensure that you, your family, friends and neighbors are prepared for any potential impacts that may come our way.
Please see the email below and attached briefing from the National Weather Service (NWS) for more information. We will continue to pass along information as we receive it:
Tropical Depression 9 has formed in the Caribbean Sea, and is forecast to move into the southeastern Gulf of Mexico early next week. Since it’s Friday, we wanted to give everyone a heads up on the forecast for the system. We will monitor the progress and evolution of this system over the weekend and will provide additional briefings as the forecast warrants.
