The vastly improved Washington High School volleyball team had an outside shot at second place in the Eastern Plains Conference, but lost, 3-1, to second place Farmville Central at home Monday.
The Pack (11-7, 7-3) led in each of the first two sets before losing 25-18 and 25-12, then battled back to win the third set, 25-23 before falling 25-9 to end the match.
The Jaguars (9-1) are tied with Ayden-Grifton for the conference lead, while the Pack has wrapped up third.
“We are all disappointed about Monday’s loss,” coach Kim Rogers said. “Farmville is a talented team and we had difficulties adjusting. Our offense and serving was strong, but our struggles were with our defense. We learn from every game, win or lose, and we are moving forward with a positive attitude. The conference tournament will give us more opportunities to keep improving and hopefully get a good state tournament seed.”
Washington goes to Ayden-Grifton Thursday to end the regular season. The EPC tournament is scheduled to begin Tuesday at the higher seed.
