Louis Plaster Forrest died on October 14, 2022, in his home surrounded by his wife, his three children, daughter-in-law and his faithful companion Nathan, a Boykin Spaniel.  He was preceded in death by his parents Ernest Graham “Red” and Hazel Plaster Forrest Jr., and his brother Ernest Graham Forrest III.  Prior to his retirement, Mr. Forrest was President and CEO of E.G. Forrest Company Food Distribution Service located in Winston-Salem NC, a family-owned business founded by his grandfather E.G. Forrest in 1920.

Mr. Forrest attended RJ Reynolds High School in Winston-Salem, NC and went on to graduate from East Carolina University in 1969 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Economics.  His lifelong passions were devoted to sports, in particular, golf and baseball.  He loved spending time on the golf course and the baseball fields with his two boys throughout their childhood and into their adult lives.  Later, he developed a passion for scuba diving and Harley Davidson motorcycles.  He traveled often to see his daughter in Grand Cayman to scuba dive with her.  His most memorable motorcycle trip was a cross country ride to Sturgis with some of his biker friends, visiting twenty-one states in twenty-three days.  His moto in life was “You only live once, so live with no regrets”.

Mr. Forrest was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Winston-Salem, NC where he taught Sunday School for many years.  He also served in the Army National Guard.

Mr. Forrest retired to Washington, NC with his wife Sharon, to be close to East Carolina University and the Pirates.  Mr. Forrest served on the Pirate Club Executive Committee and was a member of the VanSant Society.  He loved going to ECU football games and was a dedicated ECU baseball fan.  He enjoyed many years being with his friends on the outfield berm known as The Jungle.  He always kept his own scorebook and was fondly known in The Jungle as Book Man.  He didn’t miss a home game and always wanted to see his Pirates make it to Omaha.

Mr. Forrest is survived by his wife Sharon, three children Dorothy “Dee” Forrest Duggan and husband Chris, Kevin Louis Forrest and wife Anne, and Edgar “Eddy” Sherrill Forrest and wife Emily, seven grandchildren, Caroline and Patrick Duggan, Connor and Lily Grace Forrest, and Charlotte, Bland and Hunter Forrest, all of Winston-Salem, NC.  Mr. Forrest is also survived by his cousin William “Bill” Plaster and wife Dawn of Washington, NC.

Visitation will be held Friday, October 21, 2022, at Paul Funeral Home, 900 John Small Avenue, Washington, NC from 6:00 to 8:00 PM.  A memorial service will be held at Grace Church, 1776 N Market Street, Washington, NC at 11:00 AM Saturday, October 22, 2022.  Private interment will be held at a later date in the Forrest family grave site at Forsyth Memorial Park in Winston-Salem, NC.
