Washington Noon Rotary Club President, Dr. David Loope welcomed guest speaker, AlvinPowell (L,) to the club’s weekly Monday luncheon meeting at the King Chicken Banquet Hall on Monday, November 28.
Powell, President of the Inner Banks STEM Center, explained the center’s purpose and mission to an audience of more than fifty Noon Rotarians. Recently, the Stem Center received a $180,000 grant from the Burrough’s Wellcome Fund.
According to Mr. Powell, the grant will help fund a program called “Renewable Energy Sources Using Artificial Intelligence.” Mr.
Powell re-emphasized the STEM Center’s goal is to provide a cutting edge science based enrichment program with a focus on at risk under-represented 5th to 9th grade students to help them prepare for 21st century STEM Careers.
The Washington Noon Rotary Club embraces and financially supports more than 20 local Beaufort County non-profit organizations and charities including the Inner Banks STEM Center.
This week, the club is actively assisting the 2022 Toys for Tots Campaign and will be bell ringing outside Walmart on Thursday, Dec. 15th to support the Salvation Army’s Red Kettle/ Angel Tree program.
