De’Andre Titus Blount, of Chocowinity, NC, born July 11, 2007, transitioned to be with the Lord on Sunday, December 18, 2022 at the Service League of Greenville Inpatient Hospice. De’Andre fought a long and courageous battle against Renal Medullary Carcinoma, a very aggressive form of cancer for the past 11 months. De’Andre, a talented soccer player, was a sophomore at Washington High School. He also loved swimming, basketball, playing video games and watching movies. He was a beacon of light to all who had the pleasure of being in his presence. Those who knew him remember him as a kind friend to everyone he met. He had an inquisitive mind and the ability to make those around him feel comfortable and loved. He was always polite and mannerly, and his beautiful smile could light up the room. One of his most enduring qualities is that he was always looking out for those around him and never complained about anything. He loved his family and was always taking care of his mother and his brothers. De’Andre’s loving spirit touched his friends and family and helped them understand the love of Jesus Christ. He was a member of St. John Church of Christ, and was also active in the youth programs at First Christian Church, and Harvest Church, both of Washington, NC.
A special memory for De’Andre recently is when his WHS soccer teammates joined him at ECU Health Medical Center, to watch a World Cup Soccer match. He and his family were also able to travel to Hawaii, thanks to the Make-A-Wish Foundation.
De’Andre is survived by his mother, Sharon Hopkins, his brothers, Tysheem Blount, Rayquan Blount, and Jaheem Blount. He is also survived by Marvin (Tierra) Hopkins, Jr., Jessica Hopkins and Jennifer Hopkins; his grandparents, Marvin (Betty) Hopkins, Sr., as well as a host of aunts, uncles, cousins and family members. He also leaves to remember him, a host of special friends and classmates, as well as all of his WHS soccer teammates.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, December 22, 2022, from 4:00 -7:00 PM, at the Leon Randolph Funeral Home. A Homegoing Celebration will be held on Friday, December 23, 2022 at 2:00 PM at St. John Church of Christ of Washington, NC.
Sharon and the rest of his family would like to thank the entire medical staff of ECU Health Medical Center, 3HC Home Health & Hospice and Service League of Greenville Inpatient Hospice Care, for the amazing care provided to him; and all who donated or reached out during their time of need.
We all loved De’Andre but we know he is resting in the arms of the Lord.
Services are entrusted to the Leon Randolph Funeral Home of Washington, NC.
Rev. Russell S. Wilkins, St. John Church of Christ, Disciples of Christ, officiating.
