Mrs. Peggy Joyce Watson Rose, age 89, a resident of Belhaven, NC died Tuesday, January 3, 2023, at ECU Health Beaufort Hospital in Washington.
A funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m. Thursday, January 5, 2023, at Hunter’s Bridge Church of Christ officiated by Arthur Ball, Jr. A private burial will take place in Davis Cemetery in the Pungo community of Pantego.
The family will receive friends 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Thursday at the church and other times at the home.
Mrs. Peggy was born in Beaufort County on April 5, 1933, daughter of the late Hubert Herman Watson, Sr., and the late Sally Estelle Respess Watson. She was a 1951 graduate of John A. Wilkinson High School. On June 6, 1951, she married Joseph “Heber” Rose, Sr. who preceded her in death on January 19, 2013. She was a partner, along with her husband and family, of R & S 66 Service in Belhaven. She loved working and resisted retiring, as long as she could. She also loved shopping and spending time with family. Mrs. Peggy was a faithful member of Hunter’s Bridge Church of Christ, was a member of their choir, and was a member of the Adult Sunday School Class.
Survivors include her children: Sally Respess (Keith) of Bath, Deborah R. Sawyer (Ronald) of Kingsland, GA, Joseph H. Rose, Jr. (Rita) of Belhaven, and Christopher H. Rose of Belhaven; sixteen grandchildren; twenty-seven great grandchildren; and five great great grandchildren. Mrs. Peggy was predeceased, along with her parents and husband, by a daughter and son-in-law: Terry and Arthur Vander Aa, Jr.; two grandsons: Joseph Heber Rose III and Ryan Nicholas Sawyer; a brother: Hubert Watson, Jr.; and three sisters: Virginia Cox, Drucilla Kilpatrick, and Ann Boyd.
In lieu of flowers the family kindly asks that memorial contributions be made to Hunter’s Bridge Church of Christ, Senior Ministries, 15158 US Hwy. 264, Pinetown, NC 27865.
