Woolard wins 50 free, boys relay team prevails

The Washington High School swim teams were second and third in their first meet after the holiday break.
The boys were runners-up to Swansboro, while the girls were third behind D.H. Conley and Swansboro in the five team event at the Moore Aquatic Center Saturday morning.
Freshman Aubrey Woolard led the girls with a victory in the 50 freestyle (26.71), a runner up finish in the 100 free (1:01.08) and was part of the third place 400 freestyle relay team with Abby Lewis, Elena Hill and Lydia Smith.
Lewis was second in the 200 freestyle (2:38.55) and sixth in the 100 freestyle, while Smith was sixth in the 50 freestyle and the backstroke, one place ahead of Hill.
MaryPage Moore was eighth and Emma Orr ninth in the backstroke, while Ana Roberson was 10th in the 50 freestyle and Lilly Davis finished 10th in the 100 freestyle.
On the boys side, the 400 freestyle relay team of John Hinchey, Cayden Pake, Evan Makepeace and Austin Waters cruised to a 30-second victory with a time of 4:00.88 and finished second to D.H. Conley by 1.5 seconds in the 200 relay.
Makepeace was second in the 50 freestyle (26.15) and in the 100 butterfly (1:08.53).
Hinchey finished second in the 100 breaststroke (1:12.74) and third in the 100 freestyle (57.53), while Pake was the runner up in the 200 freestyle (2:20.26)
Waters was third in the 50 free (26.5) and fourth in the 100 freestyle.
Elsewhere, Luke Brown finished third in the 200 freestyle (2:37.12) and was part of the third place 200 free relay team along with Connor Lewis, Victor Hill and Miller Spruill.
Hill was third in the 100 backstroke (1:20.45) and Spruill finished sixth in the 50 freestyle.
Henry Woolard, James Gassman, Wayland Mitchell and Gabe Niederhauser were fifth in the 200 freestyle relay.
