Chocowinity — Mr. Rufus “Dalton” Smith, Jr., 73, passed away on Monday, January 23, 2023.

A graveside service will be held on Friday at 2 pm in the Trinity Episcopal Church Cemetery.

Dalton was a native and lifelong resident of Beaufort County where he lived in the Chocowinity area for all of his life. He worked in the family grocery business until his retirement in 2020. Dalton was a true mama’s boy in that he loved his Mama dearly; he loved his children, but his grandchildren were his heart. He was a die-hard Duke basketball fan.
He was preceded in death by his parents Rufus and Elva Smith.

He is survived by daughters, Natalie Smith Mason, and Lizanne Smith Godley & husband Chuck; son Rufus Dalton Smith, III “Trey” & wife Holly; grandchildren Madeline & Cameron Mason, Kylie, Annabeth, & Brinson Godley, Colton & Caleb Smith; sisters Carolyn Brown, and Sue McKinney & husband Rex; brothers Donnie Smith & wife Brinda, and Gary Smith & wife Becky.
