Mr. David Roy Wheelock, age 73, a former resident of Morristown, New Jersey, died on Thursday, February 16, 2023.
A celebration of life will be held later.
Mr. Wheelock was born in Morristown, New Jersey on August 15, 1949, to the late Robert Wheelock and Ruth Wheelock.
Mr. Wheelock was a former Land Use Administrator for the Township of Chatham, NJ. Mr. Wheelock graduated from Chatham Township High School in 1967 and enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1968 and was a Vietnam Veteran. Following his service years, he was employed by the Township of Chatham for 30 years and was a volunteer fire fighter with Chatham Township Fire Department. In 1999 he earned an Associate Degree in Business from CCM.
After moving to Cypress Landing, Chocowinity, NC in 2004, he participated in Habitat for Humanity, the Cypress Landing Buildings and Grounds Committee for 18 years, and was the founder of The Blue Hats, a service organization involved in building ramps and assistance in construction at Eagles Wings and Open-Door Community. He served on the Beaufort County Planning Commission and the Chocowinity Planning Board. Mr. Wheelock was a proud American and belonged to the American Legion, the VFW, and the VVA.
Survivors include his spouse, Patricia Ann Wheelock; three children, Katie Thiemann (Sean) of Marlton, New Jersey, Matthew Campbell (Carrie) of Jersey City, New Jersey, and Jason Campbell (Heather) of Marietta, Georgia; six grandchildren, Colin Campbell, Grace Campbell, Paige Campbell, Charles Campbell, Kyle Campbell, Madison Thiemann; and four siblings, Linda Grunno, Scott Wheelock, Robin Wheelock, and Terry Wheelock.
Along with his parents, Mr. Wheelock is preceded in death by his two brothers, Bob Wheelock and Wayne Wheelock.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Service League of Greenville Inpatient Hospice House, Vietnam Veterans Memorial Fund, or Be The Match Foundation.
